Happy Birthday Paul

Days are long when you wake up at 7am.

Today started with a wonderful awakening by Jen getting her dog, Lucky, to hop onto my bed next to me. At least I wasn't in the middle of one of those dreams like in the movies where you're making out with your girlfriend and then you wake up and it's your dog. That is gross. Nonetheless, Lucky laying on my pillow got me out of bed rather quickly. Once I was standing up, I finally started to wake up, only to have to carry a bunch of Jen's stuff out into the driveway, because we were having a garage sale. Once we got it all set out, the number of people driving by started to slow down. I guess most people were looking for bigger things like furniture, etc. because a lot of people drove by, but not that many of them stopped. Jen was still able to sell several of her things and several of her brother's things. In the end she made $45 before 11am, which is pretty decent for selling stuff she probably won't use again anyway.

Next, we came inside and at some lunch, watched tv, and generally acted like bums for a couple hours. Once Paul and Lauren (Jen's brother and his girlfriend) got there, we decided it was time to take a shower and get ready to go out to dinner. Jen got all dressed up and even wore heeels (something I've never seen before, but highly approve of). We went to dinner where Paul works, RJ's Sizzlin' Steer, which is a great steakhouse. I got a fat 15oz. prime rib, nice and pink.. mmm. Jen pretty much thought my whole meal was gross, what with my clam chowder and bleeding steak. Oh well, I thought it was great.

Finally, we came home to get ready for Paul's surprise birthday party. It wasn't huge, but a bunch of his friends came over and Jen and I helped her mom put out some snacks and drinks. Jen got Paul 18 lottery tickets, 15 scratchers and 3 super lotto tickets. Amazingly, he didn't win anything from all those tickets, not even a free scratcher! Bummer. However, Jen also got him Halo for xbox, because sadly, he own an xbox, but not halo. Come on, that's like owning a ninentdo without a mario game or a sega without a sonic game... Anyway, Paul and his friends all hung out and talked while I read slashdot and Jen did econ homework. After a while, he and his friends left to go to an indian casino nearby where you only have to be 18 to play. After his luck with lottery tickets, I'm surprised he still wanted to go gamble.

Once they were all gone, Jen pretty much fell asleep on the couch and I've just been sitting here watching the last SNL of the season. haha Jimmy Fallon just touched Tina Fey's boob. Awesome. A good end to a good season. I'm sad that Jimmy won't be on the show any more, as I'm not really sure how many of the other actors I really like that much. I still remember the good old days of Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Tracy Morgan, Chris Katan, and Cheri Oteri. I guess they can't stay on the show forever (Except for Darrell Hammond, I never remember him not being on the show). Sad to see Jimmy go, but hopefully he'll do some funny stuff. I think will miss weekend update with him and Tina Fey the most, I think they were the best weekend update people ever. Norm MacDonald would be my second pick, but he was a different kind of funny, his jokes weren't that funny, but he was.

This weekend was one of surprises. I came up to see Jen early, they threw a surprise party for Paul, but I also had one more trick up my sleeve. A few months ago, when we were in San Jose, Jen saw these cool nike watches that snap on to your wrist instead of with a band. I really wanted to get her one, but all of the present-giving holidays for us are between october and march. Anway, I decided that our 18 month anniversary was as good of a reson as any, and I knew she would like it. Like the fool that I am, I told her I had a surprise for her. Once I had said this, I realized I had already ruined some of the surprise value. Now she knew something was coming. This would not do. Then I came up with coming down early. It was the surprise she would think of first. So the surprise I wrote about on thursday night was actually a decoy surprise so that she would really be surprised when I gave her the watch. She was. She was also really excited. I thought it was really cute how now she shows all her family and friends the cool watch I got her. One thing that is also awesome, which you can't tell from the link above, when the minutes change, they roll over, like an odometer on a car. Jen thought that was just about the coolest thing she had ever seen on a watch. Every time she shows it to someone now, she's like "wait, you have to watch the minute turn over!" and they sit there for like 30 seconds until the minute changes and she smiles this big, beautiful smile. Girls definitely like presents. I think I've got that figured out. =P
