Louisiana House panel OKs ban on low-slung pants

Government Control of Fashion! That's the Answer!

This is just plain rediculous.

“In our society we have a line of decency that should not be crossed, and that line starts around the waist area,” said Rep. Derrick Shepherd, D-Marrero, sponsor of the bill.

What a tool. The government's job isn't to decide what is morally right outside of basics. This is like amending the contitution to limit marriage to heterosexual couples. (A whole 'nother can of worms) That is what church is for. I agree that the government should set a certain set of morals as "standard" like don't kill, don't steal, etc. but things like "Don't wear your pants so that I can see your boxers." are amazing that these fools are so out of touch with the people who are going to be voting for them (or not) in a year or two.

“We should be able to say what is moral, what is decent and what is acceptable behavior for our young people,” said Glenn Green, a Westwego city councilman.

NO. This is the parents' job. In the good ol' Land of the Free you say what is right for your kids, not the government. They're yours. Personally, if I were a parent, I would see nothing wrong with my kids wearing their pants low, but I would also inform them that if they go too far they'll get made fun of.

“I don’t know that it’s respectful to pay my respects at a funeral without my shirt on, but that’s not illegal; that’s just stupid,” he said. “Government can’t fix everything.”

The only person who has ANY CLUE in this whole house. GET THE CONTROL FREAKS OUT OF GOVERNMENT!!! NOW!!! There are some things the government cannot fix. These people need to stop trying to run the lives of young people because "it's in their best interest." This law is like the RIAA shutting down Napster, more will just spring up. Soon the fashion will be to have the shortest shirt, or something of that nature.

In related news, I believe I will be voting for John Kerry this election. I don't like him that much, but I sure as hell like him better than Bush. From what I've heard from him, he seems to appreciate common sense more than beareucracy. We'll see I guess.

Current Music: Outkast - Throw your hands in the air
Link of the Day: Search waffles on google - he's still better than Bush.

remember the 80's?

Comments:
see, you made your argument well, but you used things that are actual controversies to some people, like gay marriages and RIAA. im not at all sayin i agree with those, but come on, wearing your pants low enough to see your boxers being against the law is to hard for me to even fathom. i kinda undestand that people are against gay marriages and they are mixing church and state, i understand that although theyre probably makin it worse, the RIAA still has a position. this fuckin law is so stupid that im sure everyone i know cant understand why they would wanna do it. PEOPLE LIKE THE ONES WHO ARE FOR THIS LAW ARE THE REASON WHY OTHER COUNTRIES HATE AMERICANS!!! thats all i have to say.

Karl

Yeah, true, I guess I just can't think of anything as stupid to compare this law to.
